Eligibility for HMTL
For students who obtained an overall PSLE score of 8 or better, those with an overall PSLE score of 9-14 (inclusive) and attained AL1/AL2 in MTL or Distinction / Merit in Higher Mother Tongue Languages have met MOE’s Criteria for HMTL would be eligible to study Higher MT at secondary school level.

What is the appeal process for Higher Tongue languages?
There will not be any appeal for HMTL in secondary 1, instead we will look at the MT overall results of the students at the end of secondary 1, if students have obtained an overall result of 75% and above and have a good learning attitude in class, we would offer HMTL to the students from secondary 2 onwards.

Where are the Higher Mother Tongue classes conducted?
HCL, HML and HTL classes are all conducted in the school.

Can my child take Mother Tongue at a less demanding level?
Students with difficulties coping with the subject have the option to offer MTL at a less demanding level based on their performance at the PSLE.

Students who have met the above PSLE MTL grade criteria can choose to offer MTL at-level if they prefer.
With the provision to offer MTL at G1,G2,G3, MTL ‘B’ will be discontinued in Secondary Schools from 2024.
